Janie Bess is the mother of five children, including David, the son who was born deaf and who later suffered permanent blindness. Here she writes about David and the struggles they endured to overcome his disabilities as well as the prejudice they encountered along the way. It is Janie’s belief that she was meant to write this book so that others might learn from it and be uplifted by its message.

MAID IN THE SHADE
by
Jacqueline Turner Banks

"There are times when I love this job, and this book is one of those reasons, for if it hadn't been for this job, I would have never heard of this book. Maid In The Shade is a mystery starring Ruby Gordon, a proud black woman who works as a maid. Ruby has to leave her home in Tennessee to find out what is going on with her old college roommate and best friend Jan Chaney. It seems that someone is trying to kill Jan and Jan has gone into hiding, Ruby has to find out why and stop Jan's would-be-murderer. I loved this book. At first you would think that this book sounds too much like my other Girl, Blanche, from Barbara Neeley's wonderful Blanche mysteries series, but Ruby is her own woman and the only thing that she is remotely similar to Blanche is their occupation and the fact that neither is ashamed of it. Maid In The Shade is the beginning to what I'm sure will be a wonderful mystery series."    Thumper, aablc.com

"Cleaning lady turned sleuth, Ruby Gordon, may be scared of bridges, but she treats bad guys to a tongue lashing they won't forget. She made me laugh and think at the same time."

Margaret Chittenden
author of Dying To Sing

"Ruby Gordon, in her first outing, is guaranteed to become a good and always welcomed friend. She's laugh out loud funny, and she delivers the suspense and shivers with the best of 'em. Sign me up for her next adventure."

Murder By Prophecy Maggie Oliver Anderson 0-9639147-4-X
Allison MacWilliams is running out of time. All around her people are dying. Could an ancient Louisiana-African myth really be the key to explaining why they are dying instead of her? First time novelist Maggie Anderson has a natural gift for telling a story that keeps the reader glued to the page while feeling as if they are on a literary rollercoaster in Murder By Prophecy,
a super mystery thriller.

Number 1 on Emerge magazine's Best-Sellers List (November 1998)

"Polkadots Set in the world of publishing, Geri Hunter's debut novel Polkadots is an engrossingly seductive story that explores the attraction between a middle-aged black woman and a younger white man. Polkadots is a pulse-pounding, page-turning, view of lust and desire, and a character study of how selfish indulgences can affect the lives of others. Smoothly written, Polkadots is one of those memorable stories that are so easy to pick up and so difficult to put down.
